By Juan C. Ayllon We are brown leaves circling a storm drain in an early thaw. Entering the vortex of the winter holidays, there’s shopping, end of the year deadlines, planning, family gatherings, scheduling conflicts and, of course, seasonal colds, to boot. Last week while home sick, I indulged an extended A-B comparison between the Straight Wire USBF power filtered USB cable and the Final Touch Audio Callisto USB cable that I am currently reviewing. It was a very informative session. A couple friends had warned me that I wouldn’t hear any differences, that as long as they were properly made, the USB protocols designed into them by real world engineers eliminated variances in performance related to materials employed in their construction. Whereas both yielded excellent presentations, I nevertheless heard some differences! My findings will appear soon in Positive Feedback.
The new Straight Wire Expressivo SC internal biwire cables are fitting in nicely, adding an extra spacious and sweet element to the presentation and will be the subject of a review very soon. The Herbie’s Audio Lab Cone/Spike Puckies settled down some minor floor/speaker spike resonance issues since last summer and they--along with the Herbie Audio Lab Cone/Spike Decoupling Gliders--will get a formal writeup any day now. Ditto for the WK Audio “TheTwo” power cord, which has played a nice supporting act in my system. The Vinyl Vac, an inexpensive record vacuuming product and terrific stocking stuffer idea for the turntable lover, will also receive a once over in the coming days. We may be paying a visit to an audiophile shop or two before years end, splashing a few tidbits on these and, quite possibly, the pages of Positive Feedback. Stay tuned. And last, but not least, the Triangle Art Anubis turntable, which is on extended review, will be featured in yet another Positive Feedback review early in 2020. Speaking of which, there should be several new speaker reviews in the pipeline this next year featuring names like Dynaudio and JBL. And, there's also a good chance that our reference Digital to Analog Converter, the Lampizator Lite 7 DAC, may be seeing a BIG upgrade in the near term. However, until then, stay safe and warm and enjoy the holidays!
