By Juan C. Ayllon It’s been uncharacteristically quiet around The Cave the last week, but it’s not for lack of activity. Belle returned from Florida last Thursday, so we’ve been catching up, binge watching a few shows, and taking long walks with the dog. I’ve been chipping away at a piece for another online journal on our basement transformation.
Oh, and it looks like we may have one or two new writers for Prairie Audio! One person, Scott, has agreed to kick off his affiliation with a piece on his audio journey, and another who’s expressed interest in writing for us should be meeting with me soon in the near future. Having the extra writers onboard should help expand our repertoire, as well as aid in gaining additional sponsors for our site. I continue to enjoy listening to a pair of borrowed Klipsch Heresies, which sound surprisingly detailed, balanced and full-bodied with the tandem of the Pass Labs XP-12 preamplifier and X150.8 amplifier driving them. And having the Hsu ULS-15 Mk2 subwoofer backing them helps fill in the lower end nicely! They certainly make the long wait for the Usher Audio ML-802 loudspeakers which, I’m told, should be loaded onto a cargo ship and ready to ship from Taiwan any day now, and should be arriving sometime in May. Belle and I are really looking forward to their arrival – although perhaps for different reasons. I am very curious to hear how they sound, especially after they break in after the first 150 hours of playback time. Belle, on the other hand, doesn’t care for the boxy look of the Heresies, preferring a more sleek and clean look. I, too, like the designerly looks they bring, but am tickled at how much Belle’s aesthetic colors everything. Goodness, you’d think she was an artist! Cheers.
