Photo and Cited Text by Kent English I recently spotted this post by Kent English on Facebook spotlighting a special room at T.H.E. Show (The Home Entertainment Show), held in Costa Mesa, CA this past June 9th through 11, 2023. It caught my attention because it featured a two channel system similar to my reference: a pair of Usher ML-802 loudspeakers, each sporting a magnesium alloy tweeter and magnesium-lithium alloy mid-range driver with two eight inch woofers augmented with horizontal elliptical wave guides; a Pass Labs XP-22 preamplifier and, alternatively, an X250.8 and an INT-60 Pass Labs amp (my system uses the Usher ML-802s and Pass Labs XP-12 and X150.8 (I reviewed the X250.8 several years ago)). Below are Kent's comments. "A special "Shout-Out" to Fred Kat; Katli Audio in Chino Hills, CA for his great showing at T.H.E. Show in Costa Mesa, CA this past weekend.
Fred was showcasing a Pass Labs system (XP-22 / X250.8 and alternately an INT-60) fed from a Cocktail server, with an Esoteric DAC. The Pass electronics drove the new Usher ML-802's which Fred imports. As always a great sounding room! Special thanks to his son, Chadsen, for flying down from the PNW, and Fred's lovely wife Wendy for all the healthy snacks! Thank you all for a great weekend, and that includes everyone who took the time to stop in. Truly great seeing all of you! Through the years, Fred Kat and his companies, Katli Audio and Usher U.S.A., have provided me some excellent Usher Audio review samples, two of which I purchased: the Usher Mini Dancer 2 DMD and, later, the Usher ML-802s. The reason? I find that Usher Audio manufactures high quality equipment that's exceptionally good for the money. I only wish I could have seen their room at T.H.E. Show!
